Poss Fuel Problem After Start Up

Recommended Posts

fast lane

Hi all,

Not long after start up my 205 1.9 (cat) seems to have a petrol shortage.

It starts fine but then loses power and then starts to splutter and not rev up.

If i leave it in neutral/foot on clutch it seems to idle but coughs and splutters if i apply any throttle.

After about say 10 -20 seconds it begins to rev up (with some throttle) and then seems to be ok.

Any info would be much appreciated thanks.

Does it do this all the time ? Or only when cold ?

Mine never idles well from cold for the first 5-10 secs, it clears itself with a little throttle, then the cold start kicks in and all is well.

If ur sure its fuel, and havent recently. Try a new filter, they dont clog that bad afaik, but worth a go maybe. Some other more experianced members may have some better ideas maybe.

Hi and thanks for your reply,

It starts fine and ticks over fine when cold and from hot aslong as i do not leave it for too long (it seems) i am starting to think that it is connected with the cold start up system aswell as having the feul tank breather system restricted.

Not really sure how it works yet but i am thinking that when i use petrol, the breather system isnt re-pressurising the feul tank.

Therefore the engine is using the petrol in the feul rail and running fine in the begining, then it is struggleing to draw perol from the tank??? but i cannot understand how it seems to clear its self and be ok??

Clutching at straws at the moment and will be glad to get to the bottom of it.

Just hope it is not anything more serious eg ecu etc but i would think that the engine diagnostic light would be on if it was something like that.

Then again i have tried to read the ecu with two diag computers so far but with no joy so perhaps it is an electrical prob.

Thanks for your reply RKKRom, any info is much appreciated

I would guess that its the SAD. located under the dizzy.

Although in the current heat i doubt that it would be in use much at the moment.
