Brake Bleeding

Recommended Posts

Bonzai

i have borrowed a bleed pipe from a mate, it has a one way valve in it for supposed one man bleeding.

i followed the haynes manual directions for rear left, rear right, front left, front right pumping the pedal 15 times each one and checking for bubbles in the pipe. The first 3 looked ok, but the front right had bubbles in the pipe that seemed not to move no matter how much i pumped the pedal. and the pedal is still really soft and sinks all the way down.

the fluid level in the reservoir never seemed to decrease much if anything. should i have refitted the reservoir cap or does this not matter? (i didnt think it did anyway)

Any Ideas? Cheers

Hi Bonzai

If the bubbles aren't moving that would suggest that the fluid isn't being expelled from the brake nipple (seems to be backed up by your fluid level not going down either). Are you sure the nipple is slackened off enough? Guess it could also be blocked with crud, worth a look anyway. Not a problem having the reservoir cap off, just make sure you keep it topped up to at least the min line or you'll undo all your hard work by drawing air into the system!

are you sure all the bleed nipples on the other calipers are tightened up again before you start on the one you're having problems with.

All the above but if i were you i'd get someone else to pump and try it the old fashioned way in case the one way valve isn't working properly.

Any luck?

I had the same problem and went through about 2 bottles of fluid but bubbles just kept on coming from the front right. 10 minutes with a mate doing the old fasioned way and all was good. And that was 10 minutes to redo the whole system, not just the front right!

don't bother with the valve things its much simpler with someone pumping for you and takes no time at all

yeah it was easy with someone else. took me a while to get used to the operation and would have been much easier if i had bothered to take the wheels off, but ive done it. pedal is quite soft for the first 1/3 of travel but rock solid after that
