What To Do?

Recommended Posts

I brought the 1.6 suspension off tony today, and might I add very nice bloke. The suspension was better than I was expecting! The dampers and springs look brand new.... which has now left me in limbo! I want to keep the car standard as possible!!! and don't really want to lower it! The dampers at bilstein streetlines.

So what to do?

1) replace the lowering springs with the standard gti springs to retain the normal ride height, and fit the uprated dampers front and rear.

2) just repair the top mounts on the standard dampers???

Anyone offer any advice?

Anthony

Use the best shocks you have (probably standard rear and Streetline fronts), use the standard springs if you don't want to lower it, and use the best set of top mounts (with Group N mounts and new bearings if the old ones are looking sorry for themselves)

Sell the lowering springs on eBay, and if you don't use the Bilstein's then they'll sell on eBay too.

Sorted

I think Anthony is right.

I've tried lowered springs and sports dampers (If you do track days etc. fine) , but having driven a new std set-up with all the details like top mounts and bearings done, I don't think you can better it for 'normal' everyday, road use.

Think of the time, effort and expertise that went into getting the original, albeit, compromised set-up, correct in the first place.
