jonand 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Can anyone tell me whether the vacuum pipe into the ECU sensor connects directly to the inlet manifold or via another device. Thanks Jon
sonofsam 5 Posted June 8, 2006 Well on my 2.ol turbo engine it goes from the inlet manifold via a little white round plastic container looking thing then on into the ECU , i think the s16 would be similar. can get a pic later if you want
Super Josh 4 Posted June 8, 2006 via a little white round plastic container looking thing That is a fuel vapour filter and prevents fuel vapour getting to the MAP sensor and buggering it up. Josh

Super Josh 4 Posted June 9, 2006 And to carry on with the lesson... You only tend to find the vapour trap on cars where the MAP sensor is contained in the ECU. The ECU is often mounted lower than the engine manifold and if fuel gets into the pipe it can run down to the MAP sensor and give incorrect readings. Cars that have a separate MAP sensor often have it mounted higher than the inlet manifold, with the pipe connection pointing downwards and their is little chance of fuel vapour reaching the MAP sensor. Depends on the pipe length too. Josh
eddie_1.9 1 Posted June 9, 2006 ...but on the S16 it goes to the ECU via the little white round thing on the side of the battery box.
