24seven 104 Posted June 7, 2006 (edited) Which head would be better to run on an XU5 block? Head gasket's gone on mine and since it's possible the old head is warped I could be looking for a new one. which head would be a good choice (16V preferably) and what else would I need to complete the conversion? [edit] forgot to mention it's all about high end performance gain here. This thing isn't gonna be on the road for a long time, and probably never in my hands. track day only machine so low end torque and driveability isn't important. ashlee205gti 1 Posted June 8, 2006 1.6 and 1.9 cylinder heads are identical, theres a slight difference in the camshaft profile, but nothing that would be noticable. As far as i know, the 16v head won't fit onto the 1.6 bottom end, if it does fit them im quite sure there are other 'complications'.
24seven 104 Posted June 8, 2006 I thought the two lumps were virtually the same except for the longer stroke on the 1.9. surely what fiuts the 1.9 would fit the 1.6? feel free to point and laugh if I'm wrong
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted June 8, 2006 I think there would be issues with compression and you'd need custom rods, also things like the front engine mount and cambelt tensioners etc would be different. There was a post about this not so long ago, a search would help..
petert 586 Posted June 9, 2006 Do a search. Sorrentoaddict wrote a very comprehensive thread outlining the complications of running a 16V with a 1.6L crank. Things that spring to mind include custom pistons and lack of compression.
24seven 104 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) I'll leave it then. Didn't realise it would be such a major conversion. Edited June 9, 2006 by 24Seven
