Fitting New Suspension Components, Need A Little Bit Of Advice

Recommended Posts

jacobs53

This might seem slightly strange! But i am fitting the following to my car:

1 x passenger side wishbone

2 x driveshafts

2 x calipers

2 x damper top mounts

I have a selection of 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch rachets and sockets, im also going to need a ball joint splitter and a brake bleeding kit.

Is there any more specialist tools I will need? As when the cars up in the air, its darm hard to drive to the shops!!!! :)

cheers lee

Yes, iirc the suspension bolts are 21mm and require a very deep ring spanner to work decently plus a 7mm socket allen key as the normal allen key can possibly round off, had this happen on a couple of occasions

Id also invest in a proper brake pipe spanner and some plusgas should the nipples decide to be a bugger

For the driveshafts typically they're 35mm but can be 32mm iirc....get yourself a massive pole to use as a persuader, i use the socket attachment on a wheel brace and slap the bar on it

Everything else is fairly straight forward

the pug top mount bolts are 21mm, but aftermarket shocks could be anything, mine were 22 but managed to use a 23 to start it and then tighten up with a socket.

you should use a torque wrench to tighten up your nuts and bolts.

common size is 19mm for various bits and bobs. the top mounts are secured with 3x10mm i used deep reach socket for convenience but spanners will do if not.

the arb is secured with a 16mm nut and bolt

A breaker bar

A sump plug bar - good for spreading the hub open to remove from strut

A lump hammer or mallet

Chisel or punch - if your hub nuts need staking in
