Damaged Suspension Turrett

Recommended Posts

Grim.Badger

Both suspension top mounts have rusted on my GTi, however one of them has taken the top of the suspension tower with it around one of the mounting studs/bolts.

I don't think it's major damage but would like to get rid of it anyway. What would be best in the short term (I may reshell in the future as it's a fairly sorry looking shell)?

Clean and weld the damage and insert a plate to strengthen?

Clean the tower and fit a strutt brace?

Ditch the shell and get a replacement?

Cheers

P.S. I can't put in a picture at the moment, unless someone can host it for me :)

iirc 205 parts do a strut top strengthening plate which would be ideal for you to weld in . Or you could just cut out a cardboard template and take it to you're nearest metal shop.

it doesnt necessarily mean that the rest of the shell is rotten but i'de be giving it a damn good look over before i started doing up the turrets .

ide have the back seats out looking at the seat well . the rear side cards off looking down at the inner sill or looking up the sides of the fuel tank, the front 'chassis' rails. etc etc .All the usual spots
