Petrol Leak

Recommended Posts

309PUG

I have suffered a strong petrol smell in the garage for quite some time, coupled with petrol leaking onto my feet when ever I have had to fill up, however if I stood there 15mins putting £20 worth in, it was OK.

With the help of Andy (Paintguy) we attemted to tackle the problem, we removed the pipe from the filler hole down to the tank and hey presto, 3 lovely 10mm holes in the back of the pipe

It appears that when I fitted the cage the rear pick up points are on the inner wheel arches and yes you guessed it, I drilled straight through the arches into the plastic filler pipe directly behind them. Doh !

So beware when fitting a cage to a 309 !!! Don't do what I did.

Chris

Paintguy

In a way it was good to find something so obvious, rather than stripping it all down, and still not having a clue where the leak was

A few minutes with the plastic welding gun soon had it sorted. No more soggy feet, and hopfully no more throwing out petrol on left-handers :o
