yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted June 5, 2006 any one have ideas as i have just my coolant fush put it all in, bleed it and i filled it to the top of the expansion tank noticed a few bubbles have come from the top pipe? is this pipe overflow pipe?? if bubbles are coming like three every two minutes, sad i even timed it....... woudl that surggest my head gasket???? or would it be constant bubbles if heads gone?? thanks dan
maturin23 10 Posted June 5, 2006 I'm probably telling you something you already know, but it's worth letting the car get up to operating tempwith the rad cap off (ie thermostat opens, then cooling fan kicks in) with the bonnet open and giving all the pipes a good old squeeze . I suspect there's still a small pocket of air somewhere that needs squeezing out. It possibly could be that there is a very slight leak through the gasket - but I suspect it's just a bleeding issue
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted June 5, 2006 The pipes on the top of the tanks are: Overflow (I'm guess it isn't this) but it will dribble as the engine warms up if the tank is too full. Bleed pipe from the top of the rad, some water will normally flow Return pipe from the throttle body. There are two bleed points: The upper hose to the heater has a bleed on it The thermostat has one but it is very common that it is broken and I've never heard of anyone haveing a problem by not bleeding it. hengti 2 Posted June 5, 2006 not sure if i've got the right end of the stick on this one, but you'll normally be able to see some bubbling in the expansion tank, as the water pump is circulating collant from the top pipe connection, which will produce bubbling
yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted June 5, 2006 well what started it all, that stupid liitle low collant sensor light kept coming on, so i cleaned the contacts, its a phase two tank, which i had to drain the tank to get the sensor out. i then filled it up with water and a bit of antifreeze and i cained it down the road, and when i got back i went to see how much pressure thiere was, let the pressure out and then filled it up to the tp again with water, nicing small bubbles not constant, bubbleing at the top of the tank, may not even be that right top pipe really, but the engine was hot and at running temp, and i have just left it to cool. i always thought there would be bubble anyhow as like what somebody else said the pump will be pumping making air/bubbles etc thanks dan
Edp 67 3 Cars Posted June 5, 2006 Empty the system through the rad, then open the bleed screw on the said ' upper hose to the heater ' then refill the system. Then start the car and top up until bubbles of water start coming from the open bleed screw. This should mean theres no air pockets and no more bubbles in the header tank. Doing it that way always works for me. Hope that helps. Ed
