Is It Safe?

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

I've heard people mention this before and just wanted to check that it is actually safe to do.

Not bothered about contaminting the dish washer as we never use it.

Should I use any products - either normal dishwasher tabs or anything else - when I do it?

You can be left with these white desposits when putting metals in a dishwasher. Unless it's stainless steel.

I find sparkplugs come up very nicely.

yes its safe, dishwasher detergents will clean it up nicely, just make sure you thoroughly rinse it afterwards.

Depends on your girlfriend, Steve - I know it would be a VERY unwise thing for me to do

I'm forced to wash the dishes before putting them in to make sure no food gets in the washer filter.

You sure you'd want to do that?

Your head might be fine, but your plates for the next few washes may have extra flavour.

No worries about the dishwasher. We don't use it as it does not drain properly (not sure if it's a faulty pump or just badly plumbed in) so after a few washes we are left with smelly manky water in the bottom. Not nice for the dishes!! As it's rented accomodation we have just never bothered to get it fixed (our agent is a bit useless) and I find it cheaper and more convenient to wash stuff by hand.

Guess i'll bung my head, intake manifold, and trottle body in there and see what happens.

Just clean the filter out afterwards and give a couple of cycles so her indoors won't notice. Not a problem.

White marks are only like a dust and brush off.

see if you can add some degreaser into the water feed.

avoid putting anything aluminium in there. it will come out black/grey and isn't good for it.

Dishwasher powder is heavily alkaline, just like water based degreasers. Poor some degreaser in, instead of the powder. I even use degreaser on the gas top! It's great for removing stubborn stains and gunk.

If you've access to an air line as soon as you take it out blow it off and it'll stop the white deposits forming.
