allanallen 528 2 Cars Posted June 5, 2006 Afternoon chaps, i've just got myself a new dipstick for my alloy mi16 (part no.1172.99, yellow top) When i put it in its about an inch to long . I dont have the original to compare it to so i'm a bit stuck as to whats goin on. the engine has a tin sump which i was told was a grp N or A baffeled (not sure if they exist). Can anyone shed any light on my problem??? cheers al
pug309twin40s 1 Posted June 5, 2006 (edited) sounds like youve been given the wrong dipstick. i take it yours is a 1.9 mi engine. 2lt mi's use longer dipsticks to 1.9's and sometimes this is what your given. take it bk to where you got it and say its the wrong one. p.s the part number is the correct 1 for the 1.9 mi16 engine. cant remember what colour the top of the 1.9 mi16 dipstick i brought was. will check in a minute,. i do know the 1 i brought for my old 405 2lt mi16 was a yellow top. Edp 67 3 Cars Posted June 5, 2006 Strange. The new one I ordered from pug was yellow but my old was black. Maybe pug are making both the 1905 and 2 litre dipsticks yellow. They did ask me if mine was the alloy block. I will check the part no. for mine tomoz. Sounds like another fcuk up by peugeot Ed
huxley309 0 Posted June 5, 2006 to save aggro i order mine from citroen on the bx16v that way i always get the correct one

jono 0 Posted June 7, 2006 engine has a tin sump which i was told was a grp N or A baffeled 1.9 Mi should have an alloy sump, plus a spacer plate, may be that the tin sump was fitted and the spacer ommited, which should be there if a standard 1.9 Mi dipstrick is to fit, also the tin sump may be shallower than an alloy sump. BTW my 1.9 Mi sipstick is yellow. Cheers...

Anthony 1,003 Posted June 7, 2006 1.9 Mi should have an alloy sump, plus a spacer plate, may be that the tin sump was fitted and the spacer ommited, which should be there if a standard 1.9 Mi dipstrick is to fit, also the tin sump may be shallower than an alloy sump. BTW my 1.9 Mi sipstick is yellow. The sump can't be too shallow otherwise it wouldn't clear the oil pump pickup. 1.9 Mi's either have a alloy sump and spacer (aircon models and some non-aircon) or 1.9 GTi-like tin sump and spacer (non-aircon only). You can fit either a 1.6 GTi sump or an XU!0 baffled sump sans spacer, as they're deeper (same depth as the sump+spacer combo) All I would say is that if you've got the PTS baffles in the sump, then I've seen it that these can be fiddly to get the dipstick back in as it hits the windage tray.
