Pug_101 0 Posted June 5, 2006 Got in my car this morning and the starter would not work. I had good battery, but when I turned the key to the starter position all I got was a click from a relay in the fusebox (under dash passengers side). There was nothing from the starter at all Had a quick check under the bonnet and found a breather pipe had come off and the area around the AFM was covered in oil. I managed to bump start the car so I could go to work (car drove fine) and when i got there tried the starter again, but it was still the same. I drove the car last night and had no problems at all with the starter. I guess the brown plug or solinoid has has been affected by the oil. The car has got power steering so starter is hard to get to. Need help asap any ideas of a quick fix or work around?????? Thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted June 5, 2006 from under car you should be able to get at the sloenoid wire as its just a spade connector, pull it out and connect another wire to it then plug it back in. Could i Turn the ignition switch to the second position and then from under the bonnet touch that new wire to the battery. I've used piggy back spade connectors for that purpose in the past so I could leave the original wire connected as well. halfords sell them, as well as loads of other places. Thanks all Checked mine yesterday, I had the same problem, all that had happened was the solenoid wire had fallen off the starter The connectors are rubbish, I chopped it off and replaced with a spade connector from Halfrauds, closed it up a bit with some pliers; doubt it's gonna fall off now! I also choppped out the brown plug and replaced with insulated bullets/electrical tape. Seems to be working so far, fingers crossed!
