frodo_monkey 0 Posted June 4, 2006 Hi all, I've decided to take the plunge and fit carbs to my 1.6, which is used for circuit racing mainly and sprinting occasionally. (Did a search, lots of stuff about conversions came up but not much about choice). What I'm basically after is... Should I go for a traditional setup such as twin Weber/Dellorto 40s or 45s, or maybe bike carbs, for instance the Mikunis from an R1? What are the pros and cons of each? My engine is reasonably standard at the mo but I plan on a rebore, some work on the head and a 285 cam. Having seen some bargains on eBay, I'm tempted by twin Weber 40s (as they come with a 205 manifold for not much money). What do you reckon? Frodo
Rippthrough 98 Posted June 5, 2006 Nike carbs tend to be harder to set up, as they may need to be split, and the linkages usually need altering + extending. There's not many places with the experience to jet them properly in a car application either. Well setup bike carbs should result in a much better bottom end and midrange than something like webbers. 24seven 104 Posted June 6, 2006 what are teh advantages of carbs over fuel injection anyway? I thought carbs were relatively inefficient compared to f.i.
SimonJ 2 Posted June 6, 2006 Modern mappable injection will be much better than carbs but the design on a 205 is 25 years old and relatively inflexible.
