Pulling Right On Acceleration..

Recommended Posts

nick

This is really doing my head in now :)

When I accelerate the car pulls to the right just like it does when a wishbone has gone, but here is a list of what has been replace since Christmas,

Wishbones both sides

Track rod ends both sides

Steering rack

Front wheel bearings both sides

Tracking done when rack was fitted

I'm stumped now as to what it can be, I'm going to check the subframe bolts later as that is all I can think of at the mo'

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Nick

Ive had cheap wishbones wear out after doing only several hundred miles im inclined to say it's them....fixed it by replacing the bushes with proper pug items

worn hub, check if the hole where the wishbone connects has gone oval

if you jack the car up you should be able to move it by hand

had the same sort of prob on mine, it was the pinch bolts on the hub, they were not tight enough.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've had both sides jacked up and definately no play (i've used brand new nuts and bolts for the wishbones both sides, including high tensile ones for the balljoint pinch bolt).

I pay a bit extra and use Quinton Hazel wishbones which were always fine on my old red Mi.

I think I'll go for some Pug bushes next and see if that makes a difference.

Try swapping the tyres round. I had this and one of my tyres had a ridge on it.

I've had QH w/bones and they started the same symptoms in less than a fortnight. Got some OE bushes and the feel was MUCH more solid and the veering was gone. :D

The only other thing would be the front ant-roll bar bushes, but unlikely, unless a very high mileage car, as they are poly from new. Worth checking if the bushes don't fix it.

I'm going to go the new bushes route I think.

I have had the problem before with the pinch bolts not being tight enough, hence the high tensile bolts so I can get them really tight.

Dino, both the hubs are off the old red Mi and that drove perfectly straight.

One thing I noticed today is that when off the throttle or on the brakes the s/wheel is dead straight, as soon as you put the power on (even a constant throttle) the wheel is a couple of degrees to the right?!

Aw well, more work to do at the w/end.......

Thanks for the replies lads.

A quick update on this.

It was a bush that had failed after all, the front one on the passenger side.

I've now put a new genuine Pug' bush in the front and it's fine now, I got the flex kit mentioned in another thread for £17 which contains four bushes and all the nuts, bolts and washers for both wishbones.

Getting the bushes out was easier than I thought it would be, instead of burning them out, which seems to be the most popular(and smelly) way, I just drilled loads of holes through the rubber which released the inner metal ring and then just sawed through the out ring which just pops out.

Happy boy again

Another update on the update....

I have now put the genuine Pug bushes in the other side and, at last, it handles like a 205 gti should, not like a pig on stilts.

Also found a loose hub nut which, I imagine, wasn't helping matters!!

Nick, any chance you could post the part no. for the bush kit? I've got similar symptoms.
