New Suspension.... Koni.... Question

I have some Koni suspension that i've just started to fit to my 87 1.9 GTi. The rears went on fine no bother at all... but the front are a bit puzzling.

They have no mounts for brake lines and the ARB link ?! Is this normal? Remove the ARB, or get different suspension?

They are gas shocks.... not sure on gas type, but would welding the ARB link mount on be an un-wise idea?

Sounds like you got the kit for the non GTi models.

welding the mounts for ARB link ok you think?

Does seem odd as dont the base models atleast have the brake line bracket this has neither which suggest its for something completely different....

I wouldn't, if you distort the shock even slightly it'll be wrecked. Not to mention you might cook the internals.

Rear is lowered with Koni shocks and solid mounts

just going to give it a try with the ARB diconnected, and with upper and lower braces fitted.

You might get away with welding a bracket for the ARB link to the lower spring platform. Unlikely to warp main tube that way.

There is about 20cm difference in height isn't there ?!

extend the bracket not the link unless peugeot sell a longere one.

Just a thought but wouldn't it be easier to take them back to where U got them from and get them changed for the right ones ? Just a thought like.

It sounds like a lot of hassle, and quite likely not to work.

Where did you buy the shocks from? Send them back and get the right ones if you can.

they were from someone, second hand, but boxed new.

:angry: Worse than that... the contents of the shock are pressurised aren't they? So if the weld penetrates the tube wall, it'll blow a hole straight through and the oil inside will be forced out... could get nasty especially if it caught fire on the welding tip on its way out...
