Oil For An Xu9 8v

Recommended Posts

smckeown

I have had 2 conflicting recommendations for oil in my 8v race engine, specifically:

10w60 (competitor in 205 challenge)

5w40 (oilman from opieoils)

Anyone got any advice ?

Are you running an Oil Cooler?

I found recently with 10 40 oil, once it get really hot you loose oil pressure. On the track that is.

I intend to try 10 60 next.

yes i have a 13 row mocal oil cooler. Oilman did say that 5w40 is suitable under 120deg c

the thing is he recommended Silkolene Pro S 15w-50 for my old mi16, so i have loads of that i nthe garage, i was hoping to re-use

That was for an old engine though, no?

I guess you would want, maybe, a thinner oil for a rebuilt engine, hence 5w40, but I guess with an oil cooler 40 is high enough.

I know Pete F uses 15w50 and it is quite thick.

I've replied on you PSOOC thread but if I had 15w50 going spare I would use that, maybe something tinner is required for running in though - I'd check that with and engine builder tho if I were you - Puma as he built it..
