Underbonnet Temperatures

Recommended Posts

As per title

Wandered if anyone had actually measured the temperature under the bonnet near the intake?

Everyone talks of getting cold air in etc but exactly what temperature is it when sat in traffic and going along at low speed / high speed?

I am getting myself a temperature data logger as want to see if when moving the temperature is actually high or pretty much as per the outside around the intakes of my carbs.

If it proves hot then im gonna stick a scoop above the carbs to get direct cold air, but want to prove it before cutting holes.

Hi

I saw temps as high as 65 degrees when the car was being mapped, when the fans came on the heat off the radiator was blowing straight into the inlet on the throttle bodies.

I dropped the radiator below the intake trumpets and the temperature now hardly rises above ambient.

How are you guys measuring the temps? I was thinking on the way home about maybe getting some sort of read out using a guage from a computer unit which uses an lcd readout. They seem pretty accurate and cheap to get hold of. Just really out of interest i guess.

I've seen around 70* in the manifold on the 1.4. stock intake shouldn't be far off ambient
