Setting Up Dizzy

Recommended Posts

Guest 205CTI-il

well, after i was fitted 1.9 engine on my CTi.

at that time i was running full 1.6 set up and the car sounds not good enuff and my local mechanic setted up the dizzy just for the car to roll...

after completting the transformation to the 1.9 set up with cleaned enjectors, ecu and afm i think i need to set up the dizzy so my engine will stop smoke white smoke with petrol smell (i hope its the reasson for it)

so any manuals or tips how much to rotate that thing or what so ever?

thx, eddie

loosen the 2 nuts, turn it so its central and tighten the nuts, take it for a spin see how it feels. it may need to be slightly retarded(anti clockwise) if your running 95ron fuel. Sounds like its possibly too far retarded and not burning all the fuel at the moment. You mightfind i needs idle air and fuel fettling to get it idling right when moved. Do this by use of the air bypass screw on the throttle body and the allen key bolt in the AFM for fuel adjustment. A gunson colour tune may be a good investment ;)

Turning it towards the bulkhead advances the timing, and towards the front, retards.

Regarding the white smoke its either condensation or if it still does it when warm, its burning water which could suggest HG failiure, a compression test will rule that out.

Basically start slightly advanced from the middle and test drive it. Going up hills in 5th is a good way to test to see if it pinks if it does then retard it slightly. Obv what fuel your using can have a bearing on this.

Ideally you need the car setting up properly on a co machine. Also a timing light to set ignition timing. The higher octance the fuel the more advanced it needs to be.

hope this helps.
