Bolt In Roll Cage

I'm trying to find a cage that is bolt in (no welding at all) for the 205. so far the only 'bolt in' cages I can find require bolt mounts to be welded in. Problem is I'm not a qualified welder, so I can't do the work myself and have the car pass scrutineering. Does anyone know to any cages that don't require welding in, but are MSA approved?

try giving safety devices a call. although their mounting plates MAY need welded although nova ones dont.

 

not any members of here local to you that can weld?

 

if you were north o the border i'd tell you to bring it round

All "bolt in" cages require welded in platforms for the cage to be bolted onto - so no matter what welding will be required.

 

If you chose to just bolt through the car body you'd fail scrutineering and if you had an accident the shell could just be torn as the cage punches through.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I may have to get someone to do some welding for me then. In which case does anyone have any opinions on the OMP 6 point bolt in cage?

 

I'm in North Wales if anyone knows a good welder.

put the cage in the car and use the points that are bolt in to locate it. then offer up the weld-in mounts so you know exactly where they need to go. Remove the cage. Then it shouldn't cost much to get someone to weld in the mounts.

 

The OMP cage only has 4 base mounts as the rear points bolt to the beam direct.

ok thanks. I'll probably go for one of those then, since it's both MSA and FIA approved (car is gonna be used for track days first, then racing eventually).

Bit of a shortage of well known people up that way for you to use!

 

DES Developments are in Walsall which is a fair old treck, but their labour rates are good. If you got there early in the day, the car was already stripped and the cage all there then they should be able to fit within a day.

 

But if you do what Butler says and test fit the cage, put the plates in place (bearing in mind the foot plates don't always fit so well and may need modifying or remaufacturing) and tack weld them - then go somewhere to get them fully welded in.

 

Big issue with this is that the door bar saddles need welding in too IIRC - so it would mean cage in, mark up and tack in plates. When 100% happy take it somewhere to be welded fully, then refit cage, take somewhere to weld on door bar saddles and clamp plates into end of the door bars themselves.

 

Worth getting a quote for full fitting as if the car is ready for them to be welded it could be cheaper than you think (i.e. fully stripped - drive there with only drivers seat in then remove when arrive)

I may be in luck then. the car isn't going to be taxed, so no driving on the road. I'd be trailering it to wherever the welding would be done, so it could go fully stripped and ready to work on straight away. thanks for the advice guys :):(:D
