205_sunderland 4 Posted May 31, 2006 i had eagle f1's on front 195 50 15 , my arches have been ground away by the tyres and the metal inside the arch has also been rubed on, any ideas why this could be happening as its only lowerd 40mm at front, ive jsut changed all the suspension etc but could it be because ive not fitted rubber bump stops to new gas shocks i fitted like the stops that are on the oil shocks. any ideas? regards michael
Ahl 4 Posted May 31, 2006 What model is it for a start? Non-gti 205's have less accomodating arches than the gti's. 1.6 gti's also have a different offset to the 1.9 gti, so running 1.9 wheels on them makes them stick out.
205_sunderland 4 Posted May 31, 2006 well my car is a 1.6 with 1.9 wheels so will that be the problem? will taking it back to standard height sort it? im fitting 1.9 hubs and brakes on friday will that also help? regards michael
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted May 31, 2006 (edited) If the tyre is rubbing the inner arch it generally means your beam is fooked. Is there visable negative camber on the rear wheels ( / \ ), usually the drivers side is worst. EDIT. Doh i take it you mean the front. hmmm. If your fitting 1.9 hubs that will bring the wheel further in due to the different offset but im unsure as to why its rubbing. Ahl 4 Posted May 31, 2006 It could just be the wheels sticking out into the arches then. Changing to 1.9 hubs might sort it. You'll need 1.9 driveshafts too as they don't fit with 1.6 items. Guest smokinslim Posted May 31, 2006 Front: base model arches + 7x15 rims + 40mm lowering = not a problem. Back: don't go there

trogboy 17 Posted June 1, 2006 If you've not swapped over the bump stops then the strut will rise until the spring binds or until some other part of the suspension fouls the rest of the car e.g anti roll bar on the chassis etc. This extra rise of the wheel under compression could be enough to let it foul the arch trim and the inside of the arches. I would start by fitting some bump stops. Ad
205_sunderland 4 Posted June 1, 2006 well i think im going to refit the bump stops then, but i now need to confirm that 16 shafts will go in 19 hubs
Ahl 4 Posted June 1, 2006 No, 1.6 shafts won't go into 1.9 hubs as 1.9 shafts have a larger diameter spline and hence the hole is too big. Base models run the same offset as the 1.9 though and I think 1.6 shafts fit into them, though im not entirely sure.
trogboy 17 Posted June 1, 2006 1.6 shafts will definitely go into base model hubs. I know this for certain as I have 1.6 hubs on the end of my base model driveshafts
