Edp 67 3 Cars Posted May 31, 2006 Today ive fitted my long overdue 307 brake conversion. Im using the new calipers, discs, pads and new front braided hoses i made today. Ive now come to the bleeding process and bled just the fronts first of all, i drove the car slowly up the drive and nothing happened!! The pedal went directly to the floor. I have now bled both the fronts and rears but its basically the same. What have i done wrong??? Ed
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 31, 2006 3 possibilites: 1.) You have a fluid leak 2.) You have an air leak 3.) You're MC is shagged (this can happen quite easily when bleeding brakes with an old MC as the rubber washer things get damaged or moved).
Edp 67 3 Cars Posted May 31, 2006 hmmm well the MC is only about 8 months old. Theres no fluid leak as ive checked that. I guess there could be an air leak as even with the engine off the pedal never goes stiff. When bleeding does the cap need to be on or off? I'm using one of these one way valve things, i might have to ask my dad to pump the brakes....
GLPoomobile 958 Posted May 31, 2006 I tried bleeding my brakes for the first time the other weekend. Was using an £8 'easybleed' type of thing from Halfords, with the one way valve at the end. Bloody thing was s*ite and was letting air back in the system. Went through about 3 bottles of fluid trying to bleed it. In the end I drove down to my mate the morning after and we bled it the old fasioned way. Took about 10 minutes and easy as pee. Think I'll just do it the old fasioned way with two people in future. Rippthrough 98 Posted May 31, 2006 Go get a gunson eazybleed. Makes it all a 30 second job. Or get a spare reseviour cap and epoxy a tyre valve into it, does the same job, plus you can keep a bit of pressure in should you wish.

Yep i use one of those and there very good, except on one 205 i used it on it wouldnt seal on the mc expansion tank so we had to do that one the old fashioned way
Guest Cartooner Posted May 31, 2006 Yep, the Gunson Easybleed makes bleeding a laugh. Never had more fun whilst bleeding
Edp 67 3 Cars Posted June 1, 2006 Did the two man effort tonight with a mate and its all fine. Bled the brakes through and took her for a test drive. I cant believe what a difference these brakes are going to make. The braking is already about as good as my old ones were, so once these babys have worn in it should stop on a 6 pence. Cheers
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted June 1, 2006 I've got a Gunson as well but could never get it to seal properly on the old 205 reservoirs. You can use a more modern 306/406 reservoir with the 205 MC's which seal much better. I'll try that when I change the MC shortly.

Cheers That's what I want to hear as mine should be on in about 2 weeks. What's the pedal travel like on a standard 1.9 M/C?
Edp 67 3 Cars Posted June 2, 2006 Well for me the pedal goes down about a quarter of the way and starts braking. The pedal dosent go down as far as I thought it would. I think they will be superb once bedded in though. Ed
tom_m 0 Posted June 2, 2006 That's what I want to hear as mine should be on in about 2 weeks. What's the pedal travel like on a standard 1.9 M/C? like ed says pedal travel only slightly longer than standard. don't even think of swapping for the 23mm mc, it leaves you with zero pedal travel and bugger all modualtion! Simes 248 2 Cars Posted June 2, 2006 (edited) Cheers Tom, M/C ordered, discs arrived today...my god they are huge and well thick!! off to Pug tomorrow to get the rest. To add the discs are now £19.88 + VAT from Brake part, the price quoted in the guide on the main site is £24.75 so they've gone down in price. Guest Cartooner Posted June 2, 2006 I mounted 307 Hdi discs and calipers today, but must say honestly that the pedal travel is too much for me , I'm definately going for a bigger HRC.
jim205GTI 3 Posted June 2, 2006 mmm i found them just right for me when i swopped mine over ....had to swop the mc but that was for same size...... going to be interesting to see how they stop once the mi is in
