davev 1 Posted May 30, 2006 hi, i got a little problem that i might have caused on my mates car, but im not sure. he got it on saturday and i did an oil and filter on it as he had a halfords one on, and dont know when it was last changed. just before he mantioned his starter clicked so i decided to have a quick look at his brown multiplug(wish i didnt). as i was looking i noticed that the throttle housing was all gumed up, so i thought ill give it a quick clean. but since hes had an annoying problem. every time he comes to a stop the revs sit at about 1.3k and a quick blip of the throttle brings it back down to around 1000. ive done searches on high revs, and also kangaroo as he suffers alot of it. and tied doing as much as what was recomended. the list; decided to fully clean the throttle housing and gunk off the air ducting in front, cleaned the idle screew and passage way, put it back together took the slack out the cable, tried checking the tps(dont think multimeters working right, i cant get any readings but it could be me). found it clicks at first opening but not at full throttle. i decided to put it back on as the other one i have is the same, and adjusted it so it clicks almost straight away. i think thats about it. sorry about the long post but the extra info might make it a bit easier(hopefully). cheers. dave. p.s while messing with the idle speed i noticed that when the throttle is released the butterfly seems to sit a fraction high. you can push it closed a little further and it will idle nice. this might be the problem but im not sure. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 30, 2006 There isn't another click at full throttle so that part sounds OK. The throttle switch could still be dead though as it controls the idle speed. When they fail though it usually doesn't idle very well. It sounds like the throttle body spindle is sticking unless you have the cable tensioned slightly to tight so it isn't allowing it to seat closed fully. Graham. davev 1 Posted May 31, 2006 cheers. i think its sticking, as the cable was still quite lose when i noticed it. just to confirm with the tps closed so its clicked shut it should read 0 ohms between 2-18 cuz when i tried it kept reading infinaty(1 all the way on the left). i just thought i was doing it wrong or not getting a good connection. cheers again. davev 1 Posted June 4, 2006 hi, i just thought i'll finish this post off as i think its cured. my mate got another throttle housing from rescuedude(cheers), gave it a good clean, slaped it on. and problem solved(so far ) my mate said the revs drops straight back to normal and idles smooth just under 1000. hopefully posting the conclusion will help someone in the future when searching. cheers. dave.
