How To Move Piston In Caliper?

Recommended Posts

c_r_thomson

Hi Guys whats the best things to use to push the piston back into the caliper when fitting new brake pads?

Tried levering it with a screwdriver but it is solid and won't budge. The brake pads i removed were really worn and almost down to the metal!

Any advice/tips are most welcome

Ta, Craig

i normally use a large set of pipe grips, but if its the rears normally they wind in with a large screw driver.

Yes mate the rear pistons screw in using the grooves on them. Don't try hitting em like I did once upon a time! :)

I used brut force and pushed the piston back in

if u have Bendix calipers check to make sure the carrier pistons r not siezed as i have just done mine and found one of the front carrier pistons to be stuck

lub it all up before u put it back to gether

done mine now all ok, go through the windscreen now if u slam the brakes on

lol

hope this helps

You can loosen the bleed nipple & then push them back by hand, I can on mine even without doing the bleed nipple.
