Gti And Lower Spec Model Beam Tubes

Recommended Posts

jonnie205

Went to the scrappy today to get a load of trailing arm shafts for beams ime rebuilding. Managed to strip about 5 beams in total and only managed to fing 3 good shafts

Anyhow whilst stripping the beam on a diesel i noticed the bulge in the centre of the beam tube to be almost the same as the gti i stripped earlier on. The gti beam was yellow but how much thicker is the gti centre bulge compared to xs, diesel, auto beams etc. I assume there is a different part number for a gti beam tube to a base spec beam?

Has anybody got dimensions of the beam tubes and info on any other differences there might be

Cheers

The beams are interchangeable. I am rebuilding an automatic beam for my gti and the tubes are exactly the same.

The only difference that I'm aware of is that the 205 GTi tubes have a thicker bulge than all the base model model tubes, although that doesn't seem to make any difference and I've rebuilt plenty of GTi beams into base model tubes. I don't have the dimensions to hand, but it's around 5-10mm difference as a guess.

All 309 tubes are the same, regardless of GTi or base model

You need to be careful of base model shafts though, as some of them fitted to beams without an ARB are different dimensions internally and you can't fit the ARB end plate into them

Can you explain that bit again? Also is there any way to tell?
