Problem With Cooling Fans On 205 Mi16

Recommended Posts

MikeT

My cars cooling fan doesnt kick in at all when it been sat running for a while. I have just done a search and found a thread where Anthony mentions shorting the some of the pins on the connecting block which goes onto the thermoswitch in the rad. (Already replaced the switch to see if that was the fault)

F**K me sparks everywhere :P when I shorted the one of the pins with the single connector beneath it - wont be doing that again in a hurry! I tried shorting the two pins that face the same way and nothing happened.. Does this mean the fan is knackered?

Is there anything else that could be at fault here? If I do have to replace the fan is this going to be a pain and have to modify the cowling on the new one going in? I guess the existing cowling must be cut up a little bit to let the radiator sit forward (it was converted by Miles)

Cheers,

Mike

It will spark occasionally if you bridge the connections on the brown fan plug. You may have blown a fuse, these are located under a little black cover in the front of the engine bay. White - 25A. You have to bridge 2 out of the three slots on the plug to test the fan works, one is fast fan, the other is slow fan.

The car should automatically kick in the fan when the temp sender in the rad gets hot enough. This can be replaced.

Check earths and fuses then bridge the connections on the brown plug. If the fan works, great. Run the car up to temp. If it doesn't kick in replace the sender.

I don't know I crapped myself and let go of the wire!! Maybe I should go and have another go? :P

I can't see any fuse box on my car in the engine bay - it used to be a phase 1 1989 1.6 before the conversion.

All the fuses look good in the glove box.

Cheers
