dazEmad 0 Posted May 28, 2006 Im sure we are all aware of the dreaded roof fading that can occur with 205's. I have tried to look after and clean / polish my car as much as possible to avoid this but it has started occuring in little patches and is now much worse. My car colour is miami blue and does appear that metallic paints seem to suffer more. Can anyone confirm if they have had there roof resprayed or can it be laquered and how much it has cost you. cheers daz (this is wot my face and head look like after todays sun at the french car show)

aw11_hgt 0 Posted May 28, 2006 ooops sry i just realised ive posted this in the wrong section, will re-post but its in patches so it does seem like laquer Daft question butdoes it have a sunroof? and wahts the rest of the car like? I mean it can be done, but looks tricky as theres no real end to the roof unlike individual panels. Go and get some quotes, but if its just laquer you will be mainly paying for labour as the materials involved wont be expensive (unlike paint, especially metalics). Guest dtouzel Posted May 29, 2006 (edited) You will have to pay to have the fittings removed and refitted, so if you have a sunroof it will make a difference, also the company may want to take the front screen out, so as not to create an edge that may lift, if thats the case they might have to pay a specialist company to do that, normally about £50 where Im from, also if your front screen has any chips or cracks then it may break when they take it out...which would mean a new screen.... aw11_hgt 0 Posted May 29, 2006 In an ideal world yes - sunroof out windscreen out etc, etc - just depends on whether its a concourse car or someone trying to tidy up their pride & joy!! Its perfectly possible to get a 'good' standard of finish masking these things off, I'dbe more concerned with where to stop!!! as no natural end point exists to flash to. If you get it done somewhere reasonably good they should have no problem blending in the paint, the only problem would be if thepaintwork on the res of the car has badly faded. Its very hard to give a price without seeing the car and knowing exactly what you want. Paint isnt really that expensive, even for metallic, your probably looking at £40-50 ish a litre, and you shouldnt need anymore than 4 litres to paint an entire 205 depending on the standard of finish. You really need to take it to a bodyshop locally, so that they can actually see what needs doing, and wether its just the lacquer or the base coat aswell. dazEmad 0 Posted May 29, 2006 The rest of the car i would descirbe as excellent condition, the engine bay looks superb with so much effort put into the new engne conversion by returnofjim. Having the roof sorted out would make me so much happier as i like polishing the car a lot. Thanks for your comments i will try and get a few quotes and see how it goes. hengti 2 Posted June 2, 2006 this won't come as welcome news, but it might be that the roof is only the start of it mine's spread (slowly - over the course of 7 years) to the tailgate and the horizontal aspects along the side of the car (ie. the window 'sills') - i'm sure the action of the sun is what's encouraging it, as the vertical panels on the side of the car aren't affected. the front end was resprayed by the previous owner, so it hasn't gone yet - but it's starting to (barely noticeably) on the tops of the wings and bonnet i checked out the cost of a prof respray a few years ago and was quoted about £700-800 for the roof and tailgate - no way i could justify that on cosmetics though, so i didn't bother. i'm sure you could get it done much cheaper - but it's the old adage of 'you get what you pay for' that's likely to apply if you're looking to keep it a few years, it might be worth respraying the entire car at this stage, rather than risk having to do bits of it in stages (ie. if any of the other panels start going later) hth
