Quick Question About Oil Pressure?

Recommended Posts

Hi, what should the oil pressure be on a NEW 2.0 16v XU10J4 engine be? and how does it tally up to the marks on the 205 gauge. :)

Nobody knows?

the reason im asking is this. I have recently been working on a engine conversion in a 205, its a 2.0 mi engine running on a 1.9 inlet and management with a catcams inlet cam, the engine was brand new and was running fine for a while then started running on 3 cylinders due to no compression on cylinder no 1. I have took all the lifters out and drained them of oil, poped them back in and its now running on all 4 cylinders again. The only thing i can think of is that the oil pressure may have been too high causing the lifters on cylinder 1 to push out too far then get stuck.

I have spent alot of time solving this problem and dont want to have to do it all again if this is whats happened. Does anyone think this could have been the likely cause if so what can i do to stop it happening again?

James

usually on a good engine or rebuilt engine the oil pressure should be at the 3/4 to full gauge. at idle when fully warm proberbly about 1/2 gauge.

Thank you very much for that, sound like my pressure is ok then, must have been some kind of hydraulic lock what caused the lifters to stick then. The oil pressure on idle from cold is nearly to the top of the gauge and does go down to just over half way when fully warm.

Thanks again

Hardly gospel but Haynes states 4.5bar minimum at 4000rpm for this engine which is 1 bar higher than that stated for the XU5/9 on a standard spring.

Mine has a group N spring & is above top mark at cold idle.

I swapped it for one I bought from 205parts whilst I was there.

Discovered a tiny hole in a CV boot when I swapped back to the road (1.6 GTi) wheels but thats now glued up. :P
