Revs Drop Below Idle Speed When Coasting

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Finally been trying to tackle a few long-running niggles with my phase 2 1.6 recently.

The main problem is as the title describes - the revs drop below the idle point (bout 1.2k, give or take) when you're coasting with the clutch dipped (I've also noticed that the electrics dim when this happens, although I'm assuming that's a natural response to the reduced revs). As soon as you get off the clutch the revs jump back to normal speed.

I've set the idle a little high to stop it from stalling in stop and go, that's a bodge and I'd like to get to the bottom of this one. There doesn't seem to be an air leak, breathers are nice and clear (recent HG, heh) and the TPS clicks when you move the throttle like it should.

Speaking of, should the TPS click a 2nd time on WOT? Mine doesn't seem to.

Cheers for reading,

Adam

Have you given the AFM & throttle body a good cleaning, including the idle speed screw & bypass inside the body with carb cleaner?

IIRC there shouldn't be a second click when the TPS is at WOT but I'll check later when I'm at home. & try to reply later.

Graham.

Cool. I'll take a look at the screw + bypass as the AFM is internally very clean. Thanks mate

Just out of interest see what happens when you disconect the TPS, and see if the revs still drop below idle on lifting off.

When I had a car with a dead throttle switch it wouldn't idle & this should be same as when switch is disconnected imo.
