inferno 1 Posted May 26, 2006 this weekend its all go for my turbo 309.... so just wanted to know if anyones put a turbo in one here and can give me an idea on how much space there is to fit pipes ect after the engine and box are mounted! on my zx turbo i had the engine back out 3 times to fit pipes and mod the bulkhead ect. so my initial concerns are... will i have access to change the fuel lines? will i have access to the elbow pipe from the intake of the turbo to fit it? will i have good access to the heater pipe on the back of the engine where the main water pipe is? how far from the slam panel is the throttle body going to be and how far from centre? (for intercooler mounting purposes) how much modding will the downpipe need? how accessable is the timing belt ? should i leave the covers off? any info before i dive in would be great, otherwise its three days of struggling in the rain... sick off the sight of the empty engine bay! sonofsam 5 Posted May 27, 2006 Did'nt Sander Swinkels have a turbo 309.. Anyway yeh there is loads more room in the engine bay, especially upfront. I remember the 309 i stripped with 2Pugs for its air-con, you could fit a whopper IC infront of the rad. On a 205 the inlet on the 2.0l turbo sits very close to radiator, still enough room to get a 90 in there though. All your other concerns will be answered when you come to build it ;)
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 27, 2006 There used to be a 309 turbo saloon car race series in France...so bloody loads at one point. Plus all the 309 TT's and conversions etc.....you just have a 205, only with more room, so everything should be a little bit easier.....
jackherer 543 Posted May 27, 2006 Why do you keep telling me you're gonna scrap it then?? haha thats the first thing I thought, I've got about eight text messages from you saying its off to the breakers, the last one was 12:06 yesterday just get on with it ffs mate, and talk to me about fuel lines like I said in another thread, I'm testing a braided hose kit for Mi16s at the moment, maybe we can sort a turbo one out too? TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 27, 2006 Dave Perry had a pukka 309 TT - 230+bhp, was in loads of magazines.....got sold to a girl who ripped out the engine and stuck it in a 205....smart cookie

Saying that I wouldn't rip an engine out of a perfectly good one for a 205 because they're not different enough for it to be worth it, thats just a lot of work for very little gain IMO. Guest davetibbs Posted May 28, 2006 How did Ecosse do it with that green one (Steve Dolans?) then?
inferno 1 Posted May 28, 2006 i dont know and probably dont have the funds if i did know! the vac servos wedged against the turbo inlet too
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 28, 2006 Are you using the XU10 lump? If so, ditch the exhaust manifold and get a TT one. There are at THREE for sale right now!
sonofsam 5 Posted May 28, 2006 It'll fit, extend the lower engine mount. and the gear linkage can be bent down the accomadate..or grind of the big bolt it fouls on or fit a smaller headed bolt.
inferno 1 Posted May 28, 2006 (edited) the TT manifold will mean a new turbo and pipework too... thatd cost more than the cars worth... lenthening the bottom mount will not clear a gap on the servo. heres some pics http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pug309twin40s...no/DSC00137.JPG http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pug309twin40s...no/DSC00136.JPG http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pug309twin40s...no/DSC00135.JPG and then how am i meant to fit the additional pipes in this pic? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pug309twin40s...no/DSC00104.JPG Edited May 28, 2006 by inferno
