Man3 0 Posted May 25, 2006 I bought a ZX 1.9 td the other week and the last few days it seems to be using quite a bit of diesel, i may just be imagining this though as i haven't had it long. Anyway, because of this I stuck my head under the bonnet and there seems to be a fresh-ish layer of diesel over the front of the head/block. I turned the engine on and there seems to be a small-ish amount of diesel weeping from the union type part of af a couple of the injectors (2 & 3) nearest to where they enter the head. I had a bit of a closer look at the other injectors and on injector 4 (timing belt end) like the other injectors there are two cotton braided hoses coming off but the one on the left hand side has just had a screw wound into the end! Any ideas where this hose should go to? Is it common for the injectors to start weeping? Will tightening the injectors help? before i go and purchase a huge spanner and remove the IC to try and tighten them up.

If I remember rightly that is the fuel return pipe and should go back to the tank. If it is that, then any excess fuel will be stuck in the system and be forced to find any way out it can. Could you post a picture of all four injectors? You will want to thoroughly clean the engine and check all the plastic and rubber seals because diesel has a nasty habit of destroying them. inferno 1 Posted May 25, 2006 if you need any bits call round at the weekend n ill help you out most of the desels ive seen have much more oil/desel there than that zx, so i never worried about it. that pipe with the screw is a leak-off pipe as said above, i think it goes to the pump return, ill check it out on another moter tomorrow and let you know if you dont sort it before hand. if you havent serviced it yet u might wanna try that too as desels tend to like short regular servicing... Man3 0 Posted May 25, 2006 Ok, cheers Tom. not sure when i'll get the chance to look at it properly, maybe not till about wednesday next week. I've done a few bits of servicing so far. I have replaced the water pump and timing belt and flushed the cooling system through and also put a new stat and cap on so far. I have also some glow plugs waiting to go in, so i'm slowly getting there with the servicing. I'll try and get some pics of the injectors tomorrow. Also, any ideas where abouts I'm likely to find the other end of this pipe thats been blocked up? What sort of route does it follow? Cheers guys!

I think it connects to the pump somewhere, but can't remember for sure . The only time my old XUD had diesel over the front was when the stop solenoid started to leak, so it might be worth checking that as well.
inferno 1 Posted May 26, 2006 ok checked today... its not needed hence its bunged up! normally theres a rubber boot over it, looks a little neater but thats about it. why r u replacing the glow plugs?! that was starting on the button! did u sort the drop links? you havent knocked the pump timing out at all have you? that might cause the over deseling? Man3 0 Posted May 27, 2006 (edited) I'm doing the glow plugs as i got a set of champion ones for £6 and thought what the hell, I also read on here that it might reduce the amount of smoke I'm getting when it starts. Managed to sort the drop links, although it did take an angle grinder to get em off in the end. I can't see how the diesel pump got knocked out of position as I locked it up with two timing locking bolts I had. Maybe its just my imagination, I was just concerned about the diesel thats been weeping from the injectors. Other than that the cars been perfect. I keep finding various different neons scattered about though! Edited May 27, 2006 by Man3
