Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 25, 2006 Probably both oil temp gauge and warning light are duff but is serious if the oil pressure warning is correct. Oil temp wire often break or shorts to the engine which will cause a full scale reading. This is probably you oil temp gauge problem. Oil pressure problem is another matter. Bassman 1 Posted May 25, 2006 Worth checking the nuts at the back of the gauge are still secure as they provide the electrical contact with the sensors. I had one come loose on the water temperature gauge and this would read full house but occasionally the nut would touch the blue flexi-film and I would get a true reading. roland rat 11 Posted May 25, 2006 soory but i had a C.R.A.F.T moment (Cant Remember A F*cking Thing) and its not my oil temp its my oil pressure gauge!!! seriously getting worried about driving the car, dont want in to go boom on me!!!
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 25, 2006 Get worried, if both gauge and warning light say oil pressure is low then you have a problem. Pretty unlikely that both will fail together. Try checking the crank bolt. the oil ppump is driven from the crank by a pulley only held in place by friction. E.g. if the crank bolt is loose then the oil pump will not pump right as the pulley on the crank will slip. (Also very low oil levels could cause it) Rob
roland rat 11 Posted May 25, 2006 thanks mate your a star!!just dont understand why it only happens when i gor round corners?im gona take it this weekend to someone who knows what to check
ada205 2 Posted May 25, 2006 I had exactly the same problem many years back with my first gti. Turned out to be low oil levels due to knackered stem seals. Once new seals were fitted, the car never used a drop of oil again.
roland rat 11 Posted May 26, 2006 doesnt sound good!never mind hers an excuse to put an mi in!!!
jackherer 543 Posted May 26, 2006 check the oil level before you start the engine again if you havent already (and it doesnt sound like you have). it sounds like your oil is low, its an old car so its probably either leaked a bit or burnt some (or both) and just needs topping up. Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 26, 2006 thanks mate your a star!!just dont understand why it only happens when i gor round corners?im gona take it this weekend to someone who knows what to check It happens on corners as the oil in the sump all rushes to one side of teh sump when cornering. If oil level is low then the pump can end up sucking on air for a moment because the oil has moved away from it resulting in momentry loss of oil pressure.
