Mad Professor 7 Posted May 24, 2006 Hi All. If it kind of a follow on from Autobox Problems, Won't drive. Well anyway we gave up with the 1st Autobox a bought a 2nd one. Fitted the autobox, filled it up with Dextron II auto box oil, and let it idle for aprox 2-3 min's. Then let the engine and gear box cool down, had a cup of tea, then took the car for a test drive. The new gearbox seemed to be working fine we had forward and backwards with was a grate start from the other gear box. But only 5 min's into the test we start hearing a funny noise then we lose all drive, oh know not again, but this time we lost forwards and backwards. Turn the engine off and then back on again, we get drive, and the noise has gone. We now drive the car slowy back to the garage, oh crap theres that noise again, I get out the car and pop the bonnet, and the noise is coming from the gearbox and it sounds like somthing is grinding. I drained the fresh oil, and oh crap theres bit's of metal floting around. I tought ok maybe the TC is nackered, so off came the box, and I fitted the TC from the 1st box, fitted it back to the car, filled up the autobox again with fresh oil. let the car idle again for aprox 3-4min no noise, so I put the car into drive for about 2-3 sec's and then back into park, oh crap theres that noise again, so it wasent the TC. I guess there has to be somthing wrong with the box but has anyone got any idears what it might be? Thanks for your time.
inferno 1 Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) i can assure you 100 % that was a good running box and has covered under 5k miles... where was the metal from? does that flywheel type effort fit nicely in the box?it looked the same size as an mi16 flywheel so dont see that itd cause the problem. have you used any spacer plates? was the touque converter locked fully into the box? is it defo a gearbox problem? whats the noise you heard? is the engine dying under load? seems weird how 2 good boxes have similar problems... is there auto box wiring provisions on the mi16 ecu that need fitting? on reading yr post again... ignore a lot of what i just said... is there any wear on the driveshaft splines? the speedo drive? Mad Professor 7 Posted May 26, 2006 The drive shafts are fine better then alot of I have seen in the past. The grinding noise once started happends when moving or stoped. Me and phill have both given up with the car atm, We have even been talking about taking the gearbox to peugeot to stip it down and have a look, but we both know this is going to cost both legs, an arm, and an eye. I am kind of feed up working on his car now has the gearbox(es) have been in and out that meny times I can't count it on my fingers any more. It's a real shame as we wanted the car running to goto FCS this weekend.

Mad Professor 7 Posted May 26, 2006 Thats ok, me and my mate have even been thinking about if there was anyway to use a manual, But both me and him, have come up with a blank, so it's back to the auto.
inferno 1 Posted May 26, 2006 Trust me... that box is fine. the first box was until you fitted the mi16. that says the box itself isnt faulty, and that another factor is causng the problem. try the oil as i suggested on msn. maybe the ring gear/spacer/tourque converter is set up wrong? Mad Professor 7 Posted May 30, 2006 Well I think I might of found the problem with the newer autobox grinding. I desided to take both the autobox apart to conpair what thay look like. Grinding Autobox. No Forward Drive Autobox. As you can see in the 1st pic something has gone very wrong here. So I have just remove this part of the autobox and replaced it with the part from the other box. Just got to see if it works now.
