Andy_C 50 Posted May 24, 2006 Decisions decisions!! I should be getting MI'd shortly and have a decision to make - do I stick with my std 1.6 wheels or upgrade (I have a set of 1.9 Speedlines sat in the garage in need of a refurb)? Brakelines are all replaced with braided, EBC Greenstuff pads on std discs and calipers and she stops on the button (better in fact than my Vectra) so I'm not overly concerned that the MI may be too much for the current setup - wishful (and potentially dangerous!) thinking? I'm running P600's currently so my question is do I:- 1) stick with my 1.6 wheels but look for a better tyre - dry weather use primarily so any advice will be welcomed 2) upgrade to my 1.9 wheels and go for either F1's or Toyos I've gone the route of upgrading the braking/suspension before more power, courtesy of a 1.9 beam upgrade from Mr Shuttle and spec as per my sig below but I obviously want to make sure the car's running gear is spot on. Thanks in advance
Benito 0 Posted May 25, 2006 If you've got some 1.9 15's you might as well fit them, then you can run wider tyres, and get more grip. And IMHO the 1.9 wheels look so much better than the 1.6's. I've got Eagle F1's all round on my 205, and they're excellent, although many would argue that the Toyo's are also a good tyre. Chris
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted May 25, 2006 The the 1.6 wheels it will look so much more stealth. Check out Miles's CTI - it's running 1.9 running gear on 1.6 wheels. Sleeper.

frodo_monkey 0 Posted May 27, 2006 I've been using (up till now) 14" Speedlines shod with Yoko A539s on my race car, and it seems like a reasonably grippy setup. Have just decided to go for 15" std wheels, and on advice from fellow racers have gone for Yoko A048Rs, 4 seconds a lap better seems to be the std rate of improvement from everybody in my class when they've fitted '48s. So in conclusion, if you can afford them (and they WILL wear out a lot quicker) go for 48s, if you want a good tyre that is pretty grippy but won't need replacing after a few months of hard driving, go for the '539s (or whatever is replacing them). Hope this helps! Frodo
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 27, 2006 If you aren't going increase the caliper/disc size (requiring 15") then stick with 14's for stealth. But it's purely cosmetic. The handling will change with 195 tyres but it's down to personal preference as to what you prefer. No excuse for not running F1's on a road car. However, 195/50/15's will probably be cheaper as they are a more popular size than 14's.
