Gentry_Ba 1 Posted May 24, 2006 Hi! I drive a 205 Gentry with the new rear lights (red/smoke) In the moment I'm a little bit on the retro-trip *gg* so yesterday I installed the orange front indicators instead of the stock white ones... (puuh, I hope my english is not sooo bad... ) Now the front indicators are old ones and the rear indicators are the "new" ones. The old rear light clusters are here, too. But they are really ugly I think... In GB I found all types of rear light clusters a few years ago in the web. But today i was looking for it- and i only could find the black ones and the white ones... (series 1 clusters) I remember there were red and red/smoke ones, too. Who are they? Can you give me a hint? I think, the shipping and paying won't be the problem... Thank you very much, greets Matthias
jackherer 543 Posted May 24, 2006 In the moment I'm a little bit on the retro-trip *gg* so yesterday I installed the orange front indicators instead of the stock white ones... nice one, clear front indicators dont suit the 205 IMO. I disagree with your comment about the old style rear clusters being ugly though, give it a few more years and people with 'old' 205s will get more into the classic/retro looks as has happened with MGBs, Minis, Mk1/2 Escorts, Mk1 Golfs etc, back in the day everyone tried to make those cars look as modern as possible in the same way that people fit phase two clusters to old 205s now, but as time goes by the classic look becomes the one to have and I'm sure this will happen with 205s as well (maybe its already started....). There are going to be a lot of posts disagreeing and saying phase two is the only setup to have I'm sure....
GLPoomobile 958 Posted May 24, 2006 Personally I do like the Ph1 clusters but I just prefer the Ph2 at the moment. I'm toying with putting amber front indicators on mine as it is a Cherry read and I think they really suit them . I also have very rare 205 decals down the side of the car that make it look very 80's.

Gentry_Ba 1 Posted May 24, 2006 @jackherer HI! Hmm, I agree with you in most of the points. *g* Retro is in... I will drive in my garage now and test the old rear light clusters again. The oldschool front indicators are fitting very very nice to the sorrento green... But the rear lights- I dont know...? Can you give me a hint were I can get the coloured clusters? greetings, Matthias
GLPoomobile 958 Posted May 24, 2006 Ecosse probably still do them
Gentry_Ba 1 Posted May 26, 2006 Hi! Hey, thank you, that's right!!! But now I'm not sure if I do the conversion on the back of the car... Blub?!? I will see... Greetings, Matthias
Gentrix 2 1 Cars Posted May 26, 2006 (edited) Hi Matze, did you ever thought of painting/spraying the Red/smoked ones to Red/orange? I stumbled over this idea last week, as I looked at my Gentry. I try a little Photoshop Edited May 26, 2006 by Gentrix
Gentry_Ba 1 Posted May 28, 2006 (edited) Hi Andi! Hey, that looks great!!! Hmm, but how can I do this? I have a spray for lights in red- the problem is, that the indicator-glass is smoke-coloured, so you can't respray it to orange or red... I tried this with a pair of S2 rear light clusters, but the red turns to very dark red... But the Idea is very nice!! Greetings, Matthias PS: YES, the idea with the orange front indicators I copied from you! It looks very nice to the sorrento green, doesn't it? Gentrix 2 1 Cars Posted May 29, 2006 Hi Matze, I tried this the same way, with the plastic Backlight-spray from folia-tec. A heavy coat of red on the indicators and a light coat on the rest, to match the colors. It looked nice and smooth, but it actually indicated red afterwards. Looked cool, but I don´t think it´s safe to drive here in Hamburg... But I had a look at a broken glas an hour ago - and I think I had an idea *g* orange indicators and sorrento-green works a treat! by then andi
