rooster 0 Posted May 23, 2006 i have a problem that occurs now and again but seems to be getting more regular. my car starts first time always except every so often it wont start at all it turns over but no spark to the plugs, i leave it for a while or use the wifes car and come back to it and bang starts first time these are the suspects 1 alarm system playing up and not un imobolising the car 2 coil on its way out 3 ignition curcuit thingy on the wing on its way out 4 distributor i suspect the imoboliser and alarm but im not sure. im gonna clean up the earths etc and check the wiring a new alarm is £40 so i may change it. has anyone had this before do coils play up before they go im stumped and worried itll do it when i need to get to the FCS let me know Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
richard 0 Posted May 24, 2006 i'd check, theres a black cable going to the coil. without this no spark. (LT) coil itself, dizzy cap, HT lead. Rotor arm. On the 1.6 we have to wait about 4 seconds for the alarm to release the immobiliser. Then it starts straight away. Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 24, 2006 Sounds like my old Black 205. To eliminate everything else connect a spark plug to a lead and plug this into the coil, then check for spark. However, on mine it was the ignition amplifier although the cable from the dizzy to the ignition amplifier can also have this effect is corroded (according to Anthony). Symptoms on mine: started and ran perfectly 95% of the time. Occasionally first thing in the morning it simply would not start but once started it never missed a beat. This gradually occurred more often until one day it failed altogehter at work. Rob Bit of background: the signal from the dizzy is weak at cranking speeds, hence why it can occur when starting only. If ignition amp is becoming insensitive or the cbale is poor then it can stop it starting. However, once running the engine is going quickly enough to produce a bigger signal so it then works. rooster 0 Posted May 24, 2006 i love this forum thanks your comments will help me start looking at the cables etc to get this annoyance sorted, ill remove the ignition amp and clean it up etc ( i have 2 spares ) the car started in the body shop so i took it home before they could valet it they could of pushed it to the cleaner but i wanted it on my drive so i could fix it plus i was going to clean it up for the FCS, and its starting first time wierd Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
