Pug_101 0 Posted May 23, 2006 Hi all, I want to upgrade my brakes which are normal 1.9L. I was thinking of using a spacer block to take the front caliper out more and using a suitable disc. Is there a disc with the same offset that can be used on the 1.9L hub? I believe if I used the GTi6 brakes I would need 16" wheels so don't want to do that so I am looking for something else. Also what can be done to the rear setup to improve things. So what do you think? Thanks
Anthony 1,003 Posted May 23, 2006 Gti-6 brakes fit fine under 15" Speedlines You can make a spacer to allow you to use the standard caliper with a larger disk, but that's not going to give you the same advantages as you're not increasing pad/piston area at the same time as having larger disks. sonofsam 5 Posted May 23, 2006 I am soon to be using this set up. New 1.9 calipers, brackets, gti6 discs and mintex pads. Constella brackets are we talking about?,they say you can use gti6 disc's,plus i think saying a wheel size of 16" is there to probably safe gaurd themselves.... ...I have been waiting over a month now for these brackets,as apparently there having problems with there laser cutters. So i might just chin the whole idea off now if there is no real advantage in that set-up.

I can have brackets made for me so have other options. Asked about the wheel size and they confirmed disc will fit, but calipers will not. I guess they are somehow bigger calipers on the 205. Hard to say without seeing first hand. There would be some advantage in spacing out the calipers and you would gain more leverage against the disc, but as Anthony has mentioned a bigger surface area is also important. Also don't you need a bigger Master Cylinder with the GTi6 or other conversions?
ashley peddle 3 Posted May 24, 2006 i fitted braked off a 306xsi lastnight and replaced the pads and disks - will let you know how i get on with them also - GTi6's come with 15" wheels as standard so the brakes fit behind them no problem
