What Are The Best Brake Pads For Me?

Recommended Posts

Guest TSL 333

MY88 205 1.6 GTI - standard apart from BX GTI (1.9) engine.

Front pads must have worn out on the last couple of heats yesterday at Knockhill, so I need some new ones.

To be honest, I have always found the brakes to be excellent in standard guise, however there is not much point in going down the standard route for replacements though eh!!!

So what should I go for? And where is the best place to get them?

Thanks in advance. :P

i like greenstuffs - cheap (as performance pads go) and quiet - good bite from cold, wear well (in my experience) and work alot better than std once they've got a little temp in them. and they drastically reduce the amount of brake dust generated, which helps keep the wheels clean. fade free in my experience too

Cheers - used them on my old XR2 - and found them to be good. I should have mentioned that the car is used mainly for track use. Also, I am not too bothered about brake dust (in fact, the more the better - makes the car look more purposeful!!!)

i've never managed to get greenstuffs to fade, not even on track days - and i like my late braking!

could try redstuffs - no personal experience, but they're the next step up

loads of opinion on search btw about track orientated pads - DS2500, DS3000 etc

Yeah but they're worth it :)

Ferodo dust is worse, it seems like it's corrosive enough to burn small children when you go past...

I've got 1144's, bloody great. I havent noticed much more brake dust than standard pads. I've found them good for both track and road use. Well thats my ten pence worth!

Mad :)

Green stuff were absolute rubbish a couple of years ago. Might be better now. Doubt it - greenstuff aren't recommended for track day use by the way.

DS2500 ferodo pads are the way to go. Never got them to fade and really didn't give a cr&p about brake dust - my car was for driving not poncing about :D

well, i've used them on track for years and have never had any problems - up to you if you want to spend twice as much on something that alot of people are frightened to use properly on track anyway :(

I use mintex 1155s which are brilliant; I've never got them to fade, and combined with braided hoses and decent fluid the feel I get is as if I'm using my finger tips on the pedal ;) ...which IMO is as just important as the strong overall power they give :P

I used greenstuff before and they were good once bedded in (which took an age and was bloody dangerous til they came on form properly), but I don't think they wore as well.

DS2500 are superb, good from cold too for road use.

Red stuff used on another car, not good from cold, but ok when hot, prefer 2500 s though.
