rooster 0 Posted May 22, 2006 my car is in the spray shop and now its stuck cos it wont start ive been having this prob on and off my car starts straight away 99% no probs but every so often i turn the key and it wont fire and if i leave it for an hour it starts straight away, this used to happen about every 6 months but now its getting regular. it could be my alarm playing up with the imoboliser as there is no spark to the plugs when this happens could it be the coil on its way out or maybe the ignition thingy, i have spare ignition thingys but not a coil i dont wanna fork out for stuff that wasnt broke as ive done that before so advice please of what to check first ill check the dizzy cap tomos if it still dont start. i need it back cos i want me new front valence on etc for the fcs help please
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted May 22, 2006 It does sound alarm related to me, best get it checked out. Alternatively check connections, like the dizzy fly lead that goes into the loom and also connections to coil and ignition amp. May be worth giving it a service also if it hasnt been done recently. Guest smokinslim Posted May 22, 2006 Brown multiplug per chance? I've experienced the same with my TU (whilst not the same engine has a similar plug in a similar place) on a number of occasions. Had the stater off three times one day, stripped it the third time. Sprayed the plug with wd and it started as if nothing had been wrong
bitchass 205 0 Posted May 24, 2006 Hi, i had a starting problem with mine the other day, 1.6 F reg, (don't know if its TU XU?) anyways, when i turned the key all the lights came on, fuel pump was whining but no firing. I called my mate and he came out and wiggled the conector that runs into the back of the inlet manifold. Started first time, albeit with the usuall 205 stutter. Could be this, unless yours is firing, in that case it won't be. Michael
richard 0 Posted May 24, 2006 That Michael sounds like the starter solenoid cable.....blue lead on the brown multiplug (usually found sitting on top of the gearbox) I assume from the first post that this is a spark/ignition issue.
steve@cornwall 100 Posted May 24, 2006 dampness in dist.cap / ht connection of coil? dispelled by cranking, by which time it's flooded?
gats15 0 Posted May 29, 2006 A pug specialist garage told me once that the immobiliser/alarm in the 205 can sap power causing starting problems, which is why your sometimes just getting a click from turning the ignition. I think there are posts in archive giving info on fixing the problem.
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 30, 2006 There certainly are a lot of posts on this, there is also a lot of Bs*it posted on the subject. Very few people have ever got a meter out and measured where the problem is. I've only done this on one of my 3 so far so do not claim to have every answer.
