jackherer 543 Posted May 22, 2006 I need to buy some new discs and pads for these brakes: They were on my mates car when he bought it so I need to know which model caliper they are and where is best to buy the discs and pads from please. Does anyone else make pads for these other than Wilwood? And what about the discs, are they unique to this kit or are they the same as GTI6 discs or anything? Robsbc 0 1 Cars Posted May 22, 2006 (edited) Try Rally Design they will ask you for the caliper part number which is on the face facing the insdie arch. Rally Design stock the disks & pads. Pads are available in Wilwood, Mintex, Ferredo & Hawk Edited May 22, 2006 by Robsbc
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted May 23, 2006 They look like Dynalite 2 calipers. Rally Design support Wilwood very well, and have all the spares. When ordering they will want to know the model number as there different forms of Dynalite 2's, different size pistons, different width discs etc. The number is usually stamped into the caliper, usually where the piston reservoirs are. Should start with 120-####.
kyepan 291 Posted May 23, 2006 try questmead for the mintex pads as they do them.
jackherer 543 Posted July 26, 2006 in the end I got just the pads from Rally Design as the discs weren't as bad as I had thought. they do need changing now though following some track abuse so I'm trying to find out if they're the same as any other commonly available disc like the 306 GTI6. I'll measure one up later tonight and do some investigating but in the meantime has anyone got any possible suggestions?
smckeown 1 Posted July 26, 2006 can rally design not tell you exactly what discs they are ? They are unlikely to be custom etc
damien 22 1 Cars Posted July 26, 2006 as above give rallye design a call, they where very helpful when it came to my wilwoods on my gti6
Sam 4 Posted July 26, 2006 They'll try and sell you the overpriced wilwood discs I bet, I'm pretty sure I found a 406 disc that fitted my wilwood setup, and were ~$15 a disc.
jackherer 543 Posted July 26, 2006 They'll try and sell you the overpriced wilwood discs I bet, yeah exactly, £40 each which isn't the end of the world but I'm sure they are a standard disc. I'm pretty sure I found a 406 disc that fitted my wilwood setup, and were ~$15 a disc. thats the sort of thing I'm looking for, I compared them to measurements for GTI6 discs today and they seem to be different
Sam 4 Posted July 26, 2006 The offset of the GTI6 disc was too far out for me too. How thick are your discs, I *think* mine were something weird like 280x26mm ? It was a while back as I've been running brembos for a while now.
jackherer 543 Posted July 26, 2006 they're 285 by about 19mm at the moment but I think they should be 21mm I had the original receipts earlier but I seem to have misplaced them...
Sam 4 Posted July 26, 2006 Aha, they could well be the ones I was looking at then, I went through a load of "big discs" at work and found that the 406 v6 (non coupe) discs were very close if not perfect. That was measuring and comparing discs (as well as offset) but your setup may differ. Have an effort though, wilwood want silly money for discs that are more than likely also available off the shelf from part factors.
jackherer 543 Posted July 27, 2006 the 406 v6 saloon discs are 283mm x 26mm so too thick for me. and the 306 gti6 ones are ruled out. I cant think of any other pugs with 285mm discs to look at.
Sam 4 Posted July 27, 2006 I'm pretty sure the discs I needed were 26mm infact, so that maybe where the difference is. I'm sure Hilgie could shed some light?
