2.0 Turbo

Is this the best bet for upping the boost on a 2.0 turbo engine ?

 

R-Spec Boost controller

 

Obviously with a boost gauge to check i sont go above 11psi.. ( gauge recommendations ???? , as i havent got one yet ??? )

 

Do i need to do anything else, apart from that..?

You need to get the ecu remapped. upping the boost with that controller wont have any benefit im a afraid

FUQA is right!

 

When you up the boost the motronic will go into error-programm because it can´t control the boost.

You´ve to remapp your motronic.

 

With original MAP-Sensor you can´t go about 1 bar boost.

surely you would need bigger injectors/fith injector aswell as a remap.

In previous topics, ive read the engines are good for 180bhp or there abouts on standard injectors / ecu ? ??

 

I dont wanna go crazy, just get the max BHP out of whats alreasdy there, without throwing money at ECUs etc ? ? So going to 11psi wont help at all ?

yes the injectors will flow enough and yes the ecu can provide enough air/fuel, but not on the standard map. its very annoying! think some of the crazy dutch people can remap the ecu for u

oooh the confusion LOL.. With a power boost valve give me the extra fuel. Did a quick search and nobody seems to like the power boost valves

no one likes PBVs on the stock engine because they do exactly what you want it to do. supply more fuel! on the stock gti set-up this causes the car to run rich. one a turbo car with more boost this is exactly what you want; in addition a rising rate fuel pressure regulator will not only supply more fuel, but more fuel in relation to the amount of boost you are running. you'll need deep pockets tho and its no replacement for a remap/decent management.

Ant, have a word with Gav Robinson at www.theDervdoctor.co.uk as he can remap these ECU's and he is only in Ashbourne, approx 25 miles from you. I also agree that the standard MAP sensor in the ECU cannot go above 1.0 bar. This can be changed though if you are hot with a soldering iron!

fuel cut on this ecu comes sin at circa 15 psi, loads of people on 406oc run thsi engine with stock ecu and just upped boost + boost valve. Personally i dont like the idea of it but it does work :wacko:

That sounds like they will be running lean at high revs! Good job it is only a low pressure turbo! do they not understand that combusion is about the balance of fuel and air! I want to put an Air/fuel ratio gauge in mine so I know whether it is lean or rich.

This is a fact!!! the turbo boost can be uprated to 0.8 -0.9 bar before the ecu goes into limp home mode! fuelling is lean with the standard ecu setting on the higher boost setting, you need to modify the fuelling for the extra boost levels, either

 

1) fit a FSE power boost valve

2) remap the ecu (recommended)

 

remapping the ecu allows you to modify the ignition map aswell which will produce more power. At 0.8-0.9 bar it will be producing 185bhp, and the torque increase is noticable! But 185bhp is the limit with the standard turbocharger and manifold

several guys have it on 1.1 bar overhere, running std turbo and std injectors. they use an Apexi S-AFC II to control the fuelling (actually fooling the MAP sensor signals to the ECU).

 

Little soldering is required though:

The positive side of this setup is that you can control the fuelling very easily.

That's this little guy:

Have a look for them on eBay. They can adjust fuelling every 200rpm and will interpolate for the rpms inbetween.

 

The mentioned "boostcontroller" is just a plain bleedvalve. Has nothing to do with control. Yes, you can use it to up the boost to 0.9bar but you'd need to adjust the fueling as well.

I got the same kit as Ant from ebay, I fitted it all up last night and had the following results.

Fitted the boost guage and that worked fine si i went ahead and fitted the bleed valve where the ammel valve usually sits. Wound the bleed valve out as far as possible (should produce very little boost) and took it down the road. WOW, i had unlimited boost which was awsome but very wrong, oh and it did not go into limp home mode either it just cut boost when it went over.

Could not think what i had done wrong so i pulled it all off and put it back to standard. Then later on it hit me...........i had put the bloody bleedvalve on the wrong way round (schoolboy error).

Refitted everything and set it up to run 1 bar, go's really well but there is some pinking at high boost. So now i shall fit the FSE and see how we get on with that. Will say one thing though, the turbo did not sound like it was enjoying the 1bar it was being forced to produce, some of the noises it produced were not inspiring.
