Guest Tidybri Posted May 21, 2006 Afternoon i may need to replace or recon my rear beam and was wondering if its a straight swap 2 disk breaks rather than drums. Is this an option and if so wot am i looking to spend and wot parts do i need? Any help is good help!
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted May 21, 2006 straight swap over, you will need beam, calipers, discs pads and handbrake cables.
Guest Tidybri Posted May 21, 2006 so if i can get a 1.9 beam, calipers and diks/pads that will do? cant i just use the hand break cable i have? How much you reckon i could get a beam for?
rich_w 0 Posted May 21, 2006 No, there only £6.50+VAT per side from GSF and not that hard to change. Can't comment about the beam price, sorry.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 21, 2006 Have a search as this has definately been covered before many times. How much you reckon i could get a beam for? That depends on if you want a beam that is known to be in good condition (£150+) or one that might be almost as bad as you already have. (£50) If you are spending any money on a beam its much easier (& cheaper eventually) to get a refurbished one (£300) from one of the people on here that do them or buy one thats already been done within the last year. Guest Tidybri Posted May 21, 2006 not even sure if the beam does need replacing? the pasenger side rear rubbed some times and i checked it out previous owner had put spacers on. Unfortunatly due to lack of funds car is sorn at the mo so not taken it out since. that side seems to sit lower but not sure its not just my drive!! Will post picks if i can tomorrw
Ryan 99 Posted May 21, 2006 The handbrake cables are slightly different so you'd need to change them. You'll also need the 2 rear-most rubber hoses for the brakes, as they are not fitted to drum models. Other than that it's pretty much a straight swap.
