Today I though I would take my new little toy out for a spin and went for a nice cautions blast in the new forrest. Just as I was starting to feel the car and get adjusted to what it can do (apart from blowing my eardrums from the dodgy manifold) my stereo died. I then realised that my windscreen was getting wetter and wetter as my wipers had stopped working.

Upon finding a safe place to pull over I noticed that a 25amp fuse was blown in the fusebox 3 from the left. Luckily there were spare fuses but not a 25amp. I tried a 20 and suprisingly this lasted for 15 seconds. I then tried a 30 thinking that if the original was a 25 amp then a 30 amp should get me home but that lasted for 10 seconds.

Luckily it stopped raining shortly after and i made my way home slowly trying to avoid spray from others tyres so Im quite lucky there but Im now stuck with a car that is only drivable in the dry. Im booked in to see Miles next Monday but if its raining theres no chance i can get to him.

Any suggestions of how to make a quick fix are welcome.

PS my rear wiper died on my on Monday night but i presummed that this was just the motor dying as it always seemed to be running at half its speed. Not sure if this will be connected.

Have you still got the rear wiper switched on? maybe its shorted a winding?

Hi gents, this is the first time Ive posted so I'll keep it brief. I had the same problem with my pug about 5 years ago, no stereo, windscreen wipers front and back and no electric windows. I was working in Tewkesbury at the time, driving back late on a Friday, raining, luckily the roads were clear and the only way to clear the windscreen was by going faster, but anyway turned out to be a knackered rear windscreen motor got one from a scrappy for £10 quid hope this helps :(

Hard to get a quick fix. Only thing to do really is to find the short and disconnect the offending item. Could check see what is on the fuse and disconnect everything apart from wipers? It could still be a damaged wire but it is the easiest quick fix.

No Ive turned the rear wiper off, although i suppose i might have switched it on accidentily.

What is shorting, is it when an exposed wire is touching a bit of metal?

How do i test for what is shorthing? or do i just test everything that isnt working at present.

What else could run off the same curcuit? could it be just the wipers and stereo as i have no electric windows. Would the rear wipe run o9ff the same fuse?

Ive never really liked electrics, colourblindness mainly has kept me away :D

I had a quick go at findin gthe problem today, I started off by disconnecting the rear windscreen motor and my wipers and sound system now stay on without blowing any more fuses.

Thanks all, I now have a safe journey to Southanmpton, and hopefully before that I can put on a 2nd hand motor to clean my rear on the way dow there too :P
