Humming Sound/vibration At Certain Speeds

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine was telling me about a humming noise that seems to eminate from the front of his 306 when driving at certain speeds. I took it out for a drive, and it seems to hum at a fairly high pitch when travelling at around 35 and around 60, but only when travelling at a constant speed in a straight line. It can be felt through the steering wheel. The car's done just under 100k.

Is this a wheel bearing on its way out? I always thought they made more of a rumbling sound when they go. When he first suggested it to me I thought it might be the cheapo tyres he had fitted recently.

Any advice would be appreciated, seems like it's going to be my job to fix it tomorrow morning, most likely with a hangover...

I personally doubt it's a wheel bearing and think that you could be right about the tyres as one option.

I suppose if i jack it up, check for anything loose around there, and then swap the front and rear wheels over I can eliminate one thing quite easily.
