Oil Cooler

Recommended Posts

I'm finally getting near the end of my mi conversion, I'm removing the oil cooler from the mi block because I dont have the right hoses, but how is it attached to the block? And can I just put a filter straight on when its removed? And lastly, is it the same type of filter as the 1.9 gti?

Cheers,

Ken.

You just need to unscrew the adaptor that goes through the middle of it. After removing it the oil filter fits straight onto the block.

And it's the same as a GTI filter.

Fair play for the reply, when you say "adaptor" do you mean the piece the filter threads on to or is there something inside the cooler that needs to be unscrewed? I wish I did this while the engine was still out of the car..

Yeah, it's the part that the filter screws onto. It just goes through the middle of the cooler and holds it onto the block:

You just need a 27mm socket to undo it and the cooler and adaptor will come off. The then oil filter strews directly to the block where the adator used to be.

sorry to bring up an old topic,but-i have removed my oil cooler from my mi16 and there is a hole left (female thread)

the filter that i have is also a female thread so there is nothing there to screw it to the block.

do i need to get a oil filter with a male thread on?

thanks.
