2 Or 4 Cam Pulleys On Mi

Recommended Posts

James_R

In the changing charactersitics of an Mi thread, using a different pulley set up was mentioned.

I've recently discouvered after digging about in a box of bits I've got a spare 4 pulley. I can't decide whether or not to use it though as the previous Mi on both "2" pulley went like stink, and the gearbox on the car is meant to be used on a revvy engine.

so really I'm wanting to kow ho wmuch top end is sacrificed by unsing a 4 on the inlet?

(this is on a XU10 block and XU9 Mi crank 2045cc bottom end, flowed 1.9 Mi head)

Thanks for any input

James :)

I would say try it and see what you think, its not too hard to switch back to a number 2 pulley.

I'm running a 1.9 MI with standard cams and increased compression ratio. For me I thought the gain in bottom end grunt didn't justify the loss of top end power even with a 1.9 box. This might be a different story if your running uprated cams though.

Like Man3 says, give it a try, it's not a big job to swap the inlet pulley...

I'd say try it and see what happens, as said. It's straight forward enough to swap them over. Think i'll have a go with a number 4 pulley too and see what happens. I feel a Wanted post coming on...

I'll let you know later in the week I'm moving from a 1905cc XU9 to this new one, but only as a stand in while I put the new XU9 together. :(

It will really depend on what compression your're running.

Putting the 4 pulley on the inlet vil give more dynamic compression, good to use on the 9.7:1 low-comp. Mi16 engine.

If your new one will be higher compression it may be best to stick with (2) pulley on inlet, so it don't start pinking.

Whilst I haven't done it with a 10.4:1 engine and std. cams, I doubt it will hurt it. Plenty of people do exactly the same with vernier pulleys.
