Russelltp 0 Posted May 17, 2006 I'm trying to change the cambelt on my 8v engine but can't undo the crankshaft pulley bolt, have wedged the flywheel so the engine can't turn over but the bolt and the metal spacer it sits in are just turning together. Cheers, Tim Just get a helping hand, who can Put in a Gear and step on the brakes, then use a long extension on the wrenchlever ( 150cm upwards) and try with brutal force. But this only works if you have a lift, so that you can work from underneath. Otherwise electric or air tools are helpful. I recently red something about a somehow positioned Spanner and using the startermotor, to get this bolt out. *sounds dangerous* Maybe you can heat up the screw a bit, so that the Loctite get soft again (if there is too much of it in the thread) andi Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted May 17, 2006 lock the flywheel with a chisel or something on its side in the teeth against the block, the try 'shocking' the bolt free with a hammer and spanner or socket. Ive jst got mine off today using this method, just be patient. Oh and the spacer does turn, as long as the pulley doesnt turn its coming loose. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Russelltp 0 Posted May 17, 2006 Well got it apart with bruit force and a small helping of ignorance in the end. Whoever put it together before didn't want it to come apart by accident and had used loctite along the entire bolt. Now to figure out which cambelt I need...
