I wonder if anyone can help me at all please.

I have wondered if there was something not right with the running of my car.

Until recently it has felt really responsive up to about 3500 rpm, after that it seems as if it is holding back a little, but now it is really breaking down.

At first it runs ok then regresses into a stall, I have had it on a gas tester which read 0.01% co2 1 minute, then up to 10.00 % the next. At this stage it needs reving to stop from stalling, then it can go back to 0.01% again just as quick

Have also had 2 people try to use a diagnostic machine but both times would not connect with my ecu etc.

The spark is good from all leads, have replaced the plugs but they instantly get covered in soot, aswell as the inside of the exhaust which makes me think it is overfeuling.

Have been advised to change the feul pressure regulator and also the water temp sensor beneath dizzi cap which is my next step.

Has anyone had a similar problem, would appreciate any sugestions/ help with this matter.

The injection system is Motronic 1.3.

If your saying the car runs Rich then it worth swaping the ECU Temp sender under/behind the Dizy.

I doubt it would be the fuel pressure Reg myself,

Do you know what type of Diag unit was pluged in? as the one we use has yet to fail

I will replace the water temp sensor first, The car has been on 2 testers, the first one said check connectors and try again. (I could see for myself) do not know the make, but could find out.

The second diagnostic machine was called a T 2000, or definitely something 2000. Sorry i cannot be more specific. (could find out if need be) but I was'nt present to see, and was told that it would'nt connect also.

Maybe its the wiring in my car thats to fault rather than the testers??

 

Hopefully it is just a sensor and i find the right one first eh

Have now ordered a new sensor (did'nt have one in stock) Had a look at the wiring connection and found it had oil inside which had run down from the engine, which I cleaned with electrical cleaner.

It has now definately improved a lot, still not running 100% but does'nt keep stalling.

Engine diagnostic light is now off more than on and is running a lot smoother.

Have now also noticed that an earth which runs from around/under the water temp sensor to the back of the sump is not exactly broken but does'nt look too good eather.

Will try and do something with that also.

Chech the Fuel Pump Relay if its ok. I had the same problems and after I changed everything corrected!

Have ordered a new relay today actually, about a tenner.

On mine though the relay is yellow and has a multi purpose so hopefully could be the problem as it seems to get quite hot.

Also have now found a wire disconnected above the fuse box (glove box) which has a red male and female

connecter,

Have now joined them and am sure it is running better, as in more power and smoother but unfortunately still have the feuling issue just after start up.

I would suggest you to buy an 1.9 jetronic ECU from a breaker of from ebay.co.uk in very low prices

Thanks for taking the time to find out about that part for me johnnie, and finding me one.

If i dont have any joy with the relay i have ordered (yellow) the relay that you have found for me will be the next one to change.

I have said that i have found a wire unconnected under the dash board, now that is connected my plan is to see if i can get a diagnostic computer to find out if there is anything wrong.

Hopefully then i can get my 205 running how she should

I had to replace mine as it was getting really hot, to the point of melting the inside of the relay case. Once replaced it's been fine. Worryingly Peugeot didn't list it as a fuel relay for my car but as a heater relay for a 405 (I gave them the original number off the relay to find it)

This is a tachymetric relay which is fitted to the jetronic system - the motronic system doesn't have one.

 

Have you looked at whether the lambda sensor is faulty, or the connections to it are dirty? All the fuelling problems I've had in the past have been lambda related.

 

A good check is to run the car with the lambda sensor disconnected and see if it runs any better. It'll run on a default fuelling map but it'll fuel better than it is at the moment.
