A Note For The Beam Builders Out There

Recommended Posts

shepherdfte

If you assemble the whole beam including shocks before you put it on the car, be sure to put the upper (thinner) shock bolts on so they point OUT from the centre of the car (i.e. nuts outboard, bolt heads inboard). Becuase if you don't, and you come to change the shocks later, you'll find the bolts foul the chassis! And then you'll have to drop the beam to get a simple 4-bolt job done.

Not a happy bunny last night!

An easy mistake that you'll only make once.

Never done it myself but I know some people have before.

The ARB should also be fitted before the shocks ideally.

Graham.

Sorry Graham but why does the anti roll bar need to be fitted before shocks? I refitted my beam the other day and I'm sure I fitted the shocks first?

The process of setting my rear beam height went this weekend went as follows

1. Undo ARB endplates

working on one side at a time

2. remove shocks

3. undo bolt and retaining washer on ends of torsion bar

4. pull out torsion bar

5. fit dummy shock set to correct length (305mm in my case)

6. reinsert torsion bar

7. refit bolt and retaining washer

8. remove dummy shock and refit normal shock

repeat for the other side

9. redo ARB endplates

I mentioned this to Cybernck earlier & it should be added into the refurb guide very soon.

Its just a recommended way so that the arms are preloaded by the shocks when you fit the ARB & it is in a neutral state.

Graham.
