my 309 has a blown head gasket. still tax and mot'd, so id like to run it a while before i put the turbo it. however i dont know how good the engine will be, so rather than waste money on belt and gasket kit, should i put a 2litre ct engine in, or a 1.9 from a bx gti? or go for the bx gti engine with the 2litre ct head? i plan on buying and fitting all the induction parts for the t16 before i fit the engine this time as my last turbo conversion turned into 2 months off the road!

Rather than waste your time and money going straight for a new engine it's worth getting the head off and having a good look this won't cost anything at least. Problem could just be age related. If heads not warped worth rebuilding surely? if only to get better money when you sell it after the turbo goes in.

the turbo engine is another complete engine, so the hg would only be done for a short term runaround. i already have 2 8v engines i could put in.

the hg went due to overheating, its mixing oill and water and throwing water out the zorst. my guess is the head will need machining at the least. might take it off tomorow
