Fuel Filter Lower Banjo Hose

fuel leak!

leaking from the bottom banjo union/hose on the fuel filter. it's done it before and i replaced the hose that runs from this union to the solid line (going under the car) with some aftermarket hose and tiny jubilee clips (not particularly wise in hindsight).

i've got a genuine pug hose (and some of those soft metal tube seals for the solid pipe union), but never got round to fitting them as i couldn't get the old hose end out of the solid pipe

now's probably the time to be doing it properly though!

my question is - is there a nack to getting the hose out of the solid line union? i spent ages trying it last time and couldn't get it out

anyone got any suggestions?

Yeh its a proper barsteward that one,i resorted to taking the whole line off, getting it in the vice and then pulling and twisting on the rubber hose union till eventually it popped off..and sent me flying

well, it was a nice idea, but i think i'm going to have to stick with trying to get the pipe end out with the solid line still in place.

the nut on the bracket which holds the two fuel lines to the bulkhead is shearing - and i'm not particularly confident about having to fabricate a replacement in what little room there is down there

anyone any ideas about how to encourage it off whilst it's in situ?

i can do brute force and perseverance but wonder if there are any tricks - ?

I expect leverage is the name of the game along with some mole grips to gain good purchase.

Dont know of any tricks im afraid, apart from twist and pull equally

There are 2 nuts btw on that bracket that holds fuel lines to bulkhead, well there was on mine anyway.

Buy a length of fuel injection hose and replace the whole length from pump to filter. I even got rid of the original filter and used and 'push on hose fit' type filter from a VW passat. Passed the MOT (last week) no problem and means I don't have to worry about rusty leaking fuel lines.

Currently though, fuel hoses aren't covered under the MOT test other than for leaks ;)

got around to having another go at fixing this this afternoon

after reading peoples' PlusGas recommendations, i thought i'd give some a go (have only ever used WD40!)

expensive at £4 a can, but gave it a squirt and left it for a couple of minutes - and off it comes!

all went back together ok. wasn't sure if the union on the end of the solid pipe (with new 'olive') was tight enough - and re-used the copper banjo seals - but it's leak free again

I don't mind paying £4 a can. I recently found out the stuffs worth it's weight in gold! Probably pays for itself in no time considering all the snapped bolts and rounded nuts it saves
